Goals for the year

As my last post was about my dislike of resolutions, I decided to follow it up with a post about my goals. With my goals I decided I would focus on three things; 1. My health 2. My money 3. The Internet.  Also with focusing on these I can use them as a launching point for further goals down throughout the year.

Just like a lot of other people, I made a goal about being more healthy.  This is something I haven’t take seriously in the last few years. It is mostly due to be being lazy and always eating out.  I use to be “healthy,” weighting 180 pounds and being active with running and my job.  I didn’t eat healthy but I was so active that it made up for the extra food I was eating.  As you can see in this picture, I don’t carry weight of 230-235 as I do now.  My goal by the summer is be weight less than 200 pounds, 190 would be ideal.  I am going to reach this by losing about 2 pounds a week in which I will track my activity and food intake at My Fitness Pal.  I want to start out running at least 2 miles a week and working up to a minimum of 10 miles.  I also want to track my food intake 2 days a week and have it where I am tracking it at least 5 days a week.  I also have to be physically active 3-4 times a week for at least 15 minutes.

With working on and achieving these goals I hope to use them to enter a few 10k’s and run the Sioux Falls Half Marathon in mid-September.

This is actually a really simple goal that I am excited to get through this year.  Just like most Americans I have student loan and credit card debit.  What I hope to do is have my credit card balance total to be under $300 by June and to have absolutely no debt other than my students loans by the end of the year. I am going to do this to track my spending on Mint.com, by reviewing my purchases and budgets on a weekly basis and adjusting my spending.  I recently discovered I spend to much money on Snacks and Drinks from gas stations, which I have dramatically decreased the instances I go into a gas stations.

This is also one of my harder goals to achieve due to desire to buy new tech all the time. If I could have a new phone every time one came out, I would get it.  I have also been eyeing these headphones, which could make a good birthday present.  One thing I have done to curb this is by transferring money out of my checking account into a savings account.  With this account, it takes a few days for money to transfer and I leave enough in my checking account until the next paycheck.  So large or impulse purchases tend to be minimal.

This is the most unclear goal that I have and integrates a little with my money goals.  This is mostly unclear due to the fact it is going to be a lot of experimenting and trying different things I have never done before.

Money wise I would like to make money off of affiliate links, Adsense,my YouTube channel, niche websites, and various other forms.  There are a few blogs that I follow that will help me in generating money from websites.  I would like to have make at least $100 total by June and at least a $1000 by the end of the year.  Ideally I would like to make $50 a month by June and at least $200 a month by the end of the year.  I do believe that it is harder to make the initial money in the beginning.

The other aspect of my goal for the internet is to have a greater reach, more interaction, and a bigger influence to world wide web.  Which I hope to do through creating YouTube videos, possibly podcasting and website creation/management.  I want to create a valuable resource outside of my own website that will have an impact on people.  But I have not figured out what resource I would provide or what metrics I would measure my success with.  I think with anything I do internet related, I hope to have at least 100 email subscribers and on average 1000 views a month total.  We will see what will come of this.

I do believe I can achieve these goals in the time I outlined and even surpass them. If you have any questions about these or want to know my progress, let me know, I will be happy to discuss any of it.

What are some of the major goals you have for this year?
